FAQ

This page is designed to answer some of the questions that prospective students typically have about our program. If you have a question that isn’t covered here, click on the window in the lower corner to start a LiveChat with us or send us an email.

1. DO I HAVE TO DO AN INTRODUCTION TO ATTEND THE CLASS?

All students who train at our school must attend the introductory program. For beginners, the introduction is a good place for them to get a taste of what we do in a focused environment without the distraction of other students. For those who have already trained martial arts the introduction is a good way to get a private lesson in Ving Tsun that can really propel them forward and set them up to succeed in the group program. We go over some logistics in the introduction, but it is mostly Ving Tsun instruction and training.

2. ARE THERE ANY CONTRACTS?

We go over all of the payment options during the introductory program. That said, students have numerous options including month-to-month payments with no long term obligations.

3. WILL TRAINING VING TSUN REALLY HELP ME DEFEND MYSELF?

Our training methods focus on what works in real life as opposed to what works in the ring. Ving Tsun was developed to train battlefield ready warriors out of common men. The system was developed to teach people faster than other styles and focuses on the most effective fighting techniques and strategies. If you put in the effort to learn the system, your hands will be infused with instinctual fighting skills that will be there when you need it. Ving Tsun trains your body to respond for you.

4. WHY CHOOSE VING TSUN OVER OTHER STYLES?

Most styles of martial arts can be effective if trained properly with the guidance of a qualified teacher, but what really sets Ving Tsun apart is the training methodology. To really get good at anything you have to do it with repetition so that it becomes an automatic response for your body; you won’t have time to think about what is the proper response when you’re being attacked. This reprogramming of body memory is where Ving Tsun really excels. The drills we practice layer upon one another in a way that teaches students’ bodies how to respond efficiently and powerfully. In our program students should expect to learn how to do a handful of techniques very well instead of learning tons of techniques that they can barely perform. If you like things that “make sense” and are not overly complicated, then Ving Tsun is likely to resonate with you and make mastery much easier to accomplish.

5. WHAT ARE OUR AGE LIMITS?

If you’re old enough to drive a car (legally), then you’re old enough to train in our classes.

6. DO I HAVE TO BUY A UNIFORM?

Students are required to wear black training pants and a school t-shirt as their uniform. If you already have black training pants, there is no need to buy new ones from us. For those who do need gear, Kung Fu pants, Kung Fu slippers, and school t-shirts are available for purchase at the school and on our website.

7. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME EFFECTIVE?

In your very first class you will learn practical techniques that you could use in the street immediately. With consistent training, a student should expect to feel comfortable with the basic techniques that we teach within a few months. The more frequent the student trains the faster their understanding and ability to use the techniques will grow. Within 2 years our students feel very comfortable with close quarters combat.
